In September 2004, I served as a naturalist on a Smithsonian natural history cruise from Alaska to Japan, via the Aleutians and the Kamchatka Peninsula. These photographs were taken during our too-brief time ashore in Japan, in the cities of Hakodate, Sendai, and Tokyo.
